Cyberology

Etymology

The word Cyberology comes from cyber which means “relating to, or involving computers or computer networks, especially the internet” and ology which means “a subject of study” or “a branch of knowledge”. It means the study of humans and their relationship to cyberspace and the internet.

Our tenets

These tenets are guiding principles for followers of Cyberology. The translation of these tenets from Dutch to English is still a work in progress and will be finished in May.

  1. Sanctity of expression: Every individual possesses an inherent freedom to express opinions, ideas and beliefs without censorship or restraint, through various mediums including speech, art, music, literature and other forms of (creative) expression. Uphold the right of individuals to express themselves freely, promoting acceptance and tolerance.

  2. Inviolability of self: Every individual possesses an absolute right to privacy and autonomy over their own thoughts, beliefs, body, actions and personal information, free from surveillance, intrusion and interference. Safeguard personal information entrusted to you and ensure it is used ethically and with explicit consent.

  3. Balance of freedom: Honor the rights and freedoms of others and recognize the responsibility to uphold the freedoms and well-being of others.

  4. Virtue of truth: Embrace honesty as the foundation of your actions, integrity as the essense of your character and transparency as the ….

  5. Cultivation of sympathy: Act with compassion and empathy towards all individuals, in accordance with reason.

  6. Celebration of the mind: Embrace lifelong learning, critical thinking and intellectual curiosity as pathways to personal growth and enlightenment. Challenge assumptions and encourage skepticism and science in the pursuit of truth and understanding.

  7. Acceptance of imperfection: Acknowledge that all individuals are fallible and promote a culture of responsibility, forgiveness and growth through the recognition and rectification of mistakes.

  8. Value of conscience: These tenets are guiding principles. Compassion and wisdom should always prevail over the written or spoken word.
